"Non-violence — in thought, word and deed — is the highest form of religion." Quote

Religion Should Be Kept to Oneself

Since the beginning of time people have fought over countless things. One of the things people have always fought over is their beliefs. In my opinion that is the most unnecessary conflict of them all. From our families, in church or in school we all learn how our religions are peaceful. How our prophets were good, forgiving and caring people that fought for more unity and how god is an all-good entity. Why them, do I ask myself do we fight over these things? What makes us think that it is our business if people believe in things that differ from the things we believe in? On the other hand what gives us the right to make it someone else's business? I don't think we have either of these rights. I don't think people should carry around their religion openly. I think they should practice it privately. I don't think anybody should try in any way, and what I mentioned before counts to this, attempt to change another's religion. I believe that if we all just turn down the volume at which we broadcast our believes we could already be more tolerant of each other and with that more peaceful.

When it Comes Down to it, We're All The Same

Another reason why I think that conflicts and wars over religion are absolutely pointless is that in essence all religions have very similar outlines. Conflicts between further subdivisions, for example the Catholics and the Protestants or the Shi'ites, Kurds and Sunnies, in my view-point are getting ridiculous the differences are so minor. Another thing people don't seem to understand is that missionaries are pointless as well. People have been convinced of their beliefs all their life and then a missionary comes along and tries to convince them its all wrong? Some may argue that the missionaries also do developing work in poor countries. That may be true but i always thought that that's what charities and development projects by governments are. Why waste all the efforts on forcing ideas on people who don't want to hear them?chickenjesus.jpg

About the Video and Morality

Would a just and merciful god truly want us to kill each other in his name? This a movie that I found on YouTube, the scenes in it come from the movie Kingdom of Heaven which is set in the Crusades. What I like about it is that it shows beautifully how, even whilst killing each other due to differences in thought, we still are the same. I believe that with the quote at the beginning "He who is without sin..." the guy who made this movie is saying that nobody is without sin when we make war over religion and therefore nobody should cast the first stone in the first place. Listen carefully to the lyrics of the song at the end "It wasn't meant for us to feel the pain again... Tell me why..."

World Peace Day is on the 21. How will YOU make a difference?
